Decriminalisation of a drug, Mt Charleston dining, and epic cake fail.

👨‍⚖️ Nevada committee will be voting on bill for research and decriminalisation of psilocybin. Possession of up to six ounces of psilocybin—the drug in “magic” mushrooms—would be decriminalised for adults 21 and older.

🅿️ The Mirage is going after locals (that's us!) with free parking and show discounts. The resort, a Strip institution since opening in 1989, is trumpeting a new rewards program that’s zeroing in on Nevada residents. Those with a valid Nevada ID can qualify for free parking; discounts on live entertainment, restaurants and spa packages; and for new happy hour offerings across the hotel.

🔨 The Las Vegas Convention Center is kicking off a 2½-year renovation project that will not displace a single convention. The project will cost $600M and the planned construction schedule avoids conflicts during major trade shows and conventions by temporarily shutting down construction work.

The Mt. Charleston Lodge will launch a new summer chef series called Pine Dining on July 23. Indoor and outdoor seating will be available in a temporary structure as local chefs take over the mountain with unique menus during Saturday chef cookouts and Sunday chef’s table dinners, with some proceeds going to benefit different local charities. Initial events will feature James Trees of Esther’s Kitchen, Al Solito Posto and Ada’s Wine Bar on July 23-24; Justin Hall of Main St. Provisions on July 30-31; Colin Fukunaga of Fukuburger and Dan Coughlin of Le Thai on August 6; and Nicole Brisson of Brezza and Bar Zazu on August 13-14. Tickets are available at mtcharlestonlodge.com/pinedining and more events will be announced soon.

Carson Kitchen has launched new summer menu items including: hot dog burnt ends with barbecue glaze and high-brow ranch; crawfish tacos with tasso ham slaw; salmon with mango-lime salsa; cold carbonara with pancetta and pecorino cheese; and a BLT flatbread with teriyaki bacon and wasabi aioli.

🚨Metro PD: Man in west valley fatally stabbed wife, then tried to kill himself. 

A Las Vegas man stabbed his wife to death Saturday in their west valley home and then turned the knife on himself, Metro said. Police said that at about 8:17 a.m. they received a report of a suicidal man at a house on the 1300 block of Torington Drive. Las Vegas Metropolitan Police officers found a man and a woman, each with stab wounds, at the house, according to a news release.

📵Nevada State Police warned the public Friday of scam phone calls from an individual impersonating law enforcement. If contacted do not give out personal information and call state police at 702-486-4100.
